My desk (July 2004).

I didn't have a desk and wanted to be able to work from home. I knew IKEA wouldn't have what I wanted, so I bought a bunch of 2x4s and some plywood and built my own. My design constraints included:

  • Countertop just beneath the window sill, to maximize how much I could see out the window. On clear days, I can see Rainier. On cloudy days, it's still quite green and pretty out there.

  • I don't like chairs. I wanted a platform so I could sit cross-legged.

  • It had to fit in the corner next to my bookshelf.

Thanks to Greg Balco for helping me cut the big plywood pieces, and for letting me use his tools!

Me, sitting (I'd just woken up).
