As a member of MakerMask.org I pitched an idea for an undergraduate summer project to Prof. Steve Rogak, and thrillingly he hired Thomas Bement for the summer. Thomas did amazing work. After submission the reviewers had some questions and the editor allowed time for another undergraduate, David Downey, to collect more data. Hamed Nikookar and Tim Sipkens provided invaluable hands-on guidance in the lab. Thomas wrote the first draft, and Rebecca Lau and Tim Sipkens and I wrote or rewrote some sections. Jocelyn Songer provided valuable mentorship.

• New Scientist wrote an article entitled Spiders for Mars about the Vibrating Retina project. In case their link goes down, here's a local copy of the article. I was very impressed with how well they represented the research, without any errors nor extreme glorification. 31 March 2001.
• And then our fame spread, and "bild der wissenschaft" also wrote an article, with a local copy posted here. I've been told it's almost identical to the New Scientist article, but it's in German and I don't know German. 31 March 2001
• Technology Research News followed suit with "Shaky chip makes for bug-eyed bots", with a local copy posted here. April 11, 2001.
• Photonics.com also wrote a decent article in July 2001. A local copy is also archived.
