Farewell KLSWritten on Thursday, January 12, 2017, the day after Moby's last day at Khan Lab School (KLS), when we all were still reeling. Moby was very sad and upset. We struggled to boil down for a 7 year old our limited understanding of what happened. Tuesday we explained breach of contract to our 7 year old. Last Friday the head of Khan Lab School, to our surprise, told us that Moby's last day will be on Wednesday. We told Moby that sometimes adults have disagreements ("what's a disagreement?" he asked) and that the school has one with us. We told Moby that it's not about him, that he's doing great. We explained that there are rules and sometimes people break those rules and the adults at the school are breaking some rules. We told him that we're trying very hard to make it so that he can stay at KLS, but that we're not sure we can. We told him that if he can't stay at KLS, we'll work very hard to find another school that he likes. We told him that this is hard but that it will be ok. I also told him that sometimes when he cries we tell him it's not a big deal and he shouldn't be crying; this is a big deal. He cried. I cried. Seth cried.
