From gyngve@cs.washington.edu Thu Sep 8 18:54:04 2005 Date: Tue, 2 Aug 2005 09:37:08 -0700 (PDT) From: Gary David Yngve To: Ania Mitros Subject: Re: airplane flight Thanks for asking. It went very well. They rescheduled my flight for 2:45 PM, free of charge (that may have been built into the UW Contract Fare). I think I spent about 20 minutes in muzak limbo and then only 5 minutes conversing with the agent. I remember falling asleep shortly after we took off from Seattle and waking up just prior to landing -- why can't all flights be like that? :) Our hotel has network access, so I uploaded all the pics overnight. You can scp them from ~gyngve/Backbone.tar Here's a list of mangled quotes from the trip: "My hands smell like snake! How do I clean them?" "The raptor is circling directly overhead." "I don't see it." "Look at the top of that tree and go up from there." "I don't see it." "Let me come up next to you and point it out." "I don't see it." "Knowing you and me, I'm putting our headlamps into the pack." "When have we ever had to use our... nevermind." "We better not climb too fast, or else I'll suggest something stupid like adding on the West Ridge of Prusik." "Everyone can be a weenie about something, and for me that one thing is cold water." "I'm not an alpine climber yet -- I asked myself if the tree was in." "This is hard work!" "Ok, I'm an offwidth weenie too!" "If that last pitch [5.9 OW] was 5.9, then this [next] pitch is 5.2!" "This is such a nice-looking roof!" "Guess what, more offwidth!" "Just wait until the 8-inch crack around the corner!" "That was a mean thing to say." "Did you just lead up some offwidth?" "I need just five more feet." "Can I have another five feet?" "Are we there yet?" "I think that was the last of the switchbacks." "That bridge is only half a mile from the trailhead." "Are we there yet?" "This was the longest day I've had in the mountains in quite some time." "I bet your last long day was with me too?" I'm sure there's some more good ones that I missed. Anyway, thanks for a great weekend and a wonderful dinner / breakfast / amazingly tasty melted glop. Sorry I was so tired on the drive back and unable to keep a conversation going to keep both of us awake. My flight gets back Thurs night, so I can return your gear sometime on Friday. Hope you get fully rested and have a productive week. -Gary btw - it looks like we were both right and wrong. http://www.glenbrook.k12.il.us/gbssci/phys/Class/light/u12l2b.html My red values were too high, but my greens were good. Your reds were good, but your greens were too low. On Mon, 1 Aug 2005, Ania Mitros wrote: > How did moving your flight go? I went home and slept, and have been > working since I got up.
