Project Kells - Tara(search on Board Game Geek)
This is a two-player-abstract that has some similarities to Go, in that gaining territory is important, but also different in some fundamental ways, in that one small connected region is worth more than two large disconnected regions. As the game unfolds, there's a quite a bit of fiddliness going on with the pieces that isn't strictly necessary to gameplay, but it creates a very aesthetically-pleasing look to the game. At the end of the game, there are Celtic knot patterns of raised and lowered bridges that just look gorgeous -- a lot of good thoughts went into the design here. Strategy-wise, the game doesn't seem broken in any obvious way, so this is a good thing.
