24/7 the Game(search on Board Game Geek)
This game feels like a combination of Scrabble and Cribbage. Players each have a rack of large numbered tiles, and take turns placing on a 7x7 grid, trying to form scoring "words" that read across or down. You can score points by creating sequences of the same number in a row, or consecutive sequences, or making the whole "word" sum to 7 or 24. When a "word" sums to 24, tiles may no longer be placed at either end of the "word", and the game provides small red stones to indicate the blocked cells. The tiles are large and of comfortable quality, and fit well in the provided racks. Although this game could be made just as easily with small plastic tiles, there definitely seems to be quite a lot of thought the designers put into the look and feel of this game, and it all works together quite well. If you want some more story in your games, or if you don't like the idea of adding numbers up to 24, this probably won't be your cup of tea, but otherwise this is a good game to have around. Addendum: The publisher contacted me and pointed out that we had not been playing it the intended way -- diagonal lines are also counted! I may have to give this game another try with the correct rules, it seems. Return to Introduction |
