Medici vs. Strossi(search on Board Game Geek)
This 2-player Reiner Knizia strategy game has simple rules but a lot of complexity in gameplay. Players take turns drawing tiles from a bag to make a set of tiles, which are then auctioned off between the two players. Scoring rules are simple but not so simple that it becomes obvious where the auction breakpoints are. The production values are good, of course, although there are some color balancing problems between the tiles and the board graphics that caused some confusion during gameplay. But overall, a fine two-player game.
