Beginning Rules for Warthog
If you've ever played Crazy Eights, this will be easy.
Play Crazy Eights, but with the following modifications:
- Use two decks for more than 4 players.
- Deal out 5 cards to each player.
- After the dealer (anybody) has dealt, he/she puts the remaining
cards face down in a pile, and turns the top card over to the side.
- The first person to make a legal play on this card is the first
person to play. A legal play (at the beginning of the game) is a card
of the same suit or the same rank.
- After the first person to play, play proceeds clockwise (usually)
the same way as Crazy Eights: each player may either place a card
of the same suit or same rank as the top card on top of the face-up
pile, or may draw a card to put in their hand.
- Once play has begun, players
may not ask questions. If the player says "What?" or "It's my turn,
right?" those count as questions. Any other player who notices the
question can say "Question", handing the offending player a penalty
card from the face-down pile. THIS QUESTION RULE IS IMPORTANT AND
FUN!
- If a player takes too long to realize it's their turn to play,
another player can say "Taking too long" and hand the offending
player a penalty card from the face-down pile. Then the next player
can go as if the offending player's turn was skipped.
- When a player has only one card in their hand at any time, they
must say "Warthog". Failure to say Warthog results in a 4-card
penalty.
For the rest of the rules, use your own imagination and judgement.
Don't give penalties before the player has had a chance to do what
they're supposed to.
