Enron tapes
Thomas Leavitt's been working as a research assistant on a case
between Snohomish County and Enron, transcribing hours of audio. The
fruits of his team's labour are available at FERC (follow his links;
it's a mess o'Java and PDFs). He picks out a few of the most relevant
and explosive quotes, things like
"So the rumor's true? They're f------ takin' all the money back
from you guys? All those money you guys stole from those poor
grandmothers in California?"
CBS has the story too, including source docs -- memos (the memos
have been public for two years now) and audio of Enron trader
conversations -- not just gloating, but pretty obvious ploys to shut
down generators to manipulate prices.
I hope no one still thinks Enron was an innocent windfall winner, or
thinks that they weren't engaged in illegal market manipulation.
