Weekly (?) Roundup
I hope to run a weekly linkfest, starting today. This one's mostly from
Saturday's links, though.
update Aug 8: I've moved this to the new roundup category.
- I enjoyed the Democratic national convention, what little I caught
of it (basically, just Obama, Clinton, and Kerry, plus a bit of
Sharpton.) Anna Deveare Smith (Nancy McNally on The
West Wing) wrote a great editorial on the great orators of DNC2004.
The rest? Well, I honestly preferred to watch the speeches myself.
The DNC site has transcripts and video. But I was following
along, particularly at The Blogging of the President and
Pandagon.
- Hate Makes You Crazy: Oliver Willis notes how far from reality
the wingnuts get.
- The Faulty Premise of Pre-emption:
Geoff D. Porter at the NYT explains how Libya's return to the
international community is not a validation of the preemption doctrine.
- Did al-Qaeda Game Bush into Iraq War?: Juan Cole of
Informed Comment, on the other duping. The first, by Chalabi et al,
has been pretty well documented already.
- Billmon is always, always worth reading. In fact, if I don't
list a billmon post in future roundups, then either assume he didn't
post that week, or that he did and I forgot to mention it. This post is
about the quick co-option of the mass marketing techniques each party
has used in this election and previous.
